Superwoman
On September 12th, Concepts TV’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Kristy Pinand, competed in the Tri-State NJ Super Spartan race held at Mountain Creek in Vernon, New Jersey. The 9 ¬Ω mile, 30 obstacle competition took place in the pouring rain and included grueling physical tasks such as a low-hanging barbed wire crawl, a swim through muddy waters, a forty pound sandbag carry up a steep cliff, and a fire pit jump across two foot high flames. Motivated by true grit, determination, and a willingness to succeed, Kristy crossed the finish line with a final time of 4:28:37.
Competing alongside 6,000 other participants (most of whom were men), Kristy rebelled against stereotypes and flaunted her strength and determination. ‚“I trained for months before this race so I knew that I was physically prepared, but I’ve been mentally preparing for years now because this was something that I’ve wanted to do for a very long time.”The terrain was rocky with steep inclines and narrow descents, and each obstacle more daunting than the last. The difficulty level was so intense that all participants were required to sign a liability waiver before competing that stated "There is a real possibility that you may die or be catastrophically injured." ‚“Throughout the race there were people hunched over to the side in tears because they were just so completely exhausted and fatigued,” says Kristy, who is proud to say she didn’t stop to rest once. ‚“This race really takes a lot out of you both physically and mentally, but I wouldn’t stop.” Kristy is sticking to that philosophy and has already signed up for another Spartan race that will take place in November. It was undoubtedly Kristy’s enduring willpower and drive to succeed that guided her to victory. ‚“I heard only 52% of the people actually finished the race. Besides the birth of my two beautiful children, this was by far the most difficult and rewarding thing I’ve ever done in my life. When they hung the finisher’ medal around my neck, I was really proud of myself and the example I set for my children,” says Kristy. And she’s not alone all of us here at Concepts TV are immensely proud of Kristy’s accomplishment! Congrats!!
