Covid-19 in Advertising and DRTV

The national impact of Covid-19 has devastated every sector of the economy.   DRTV and performance based marketing efforts are no exception.  Although media rates are down,  and viewership is greater than ever, there are problems with the supply chain and the logistics of  empty call centers and fulfillment centers..  And of course filming has come to a screeching halt.

In a recent article titled, “17.9 Billion Reasons Consumer-Response TV Advertising is Here to Stay”, written by Joseph Gray, it explains how much money was put into national ad spending last year for TV commercials and how that number is drastically declining currently due to Covid-19.  “Last year was another year of growth for the industry. That said, we’re definitely seeing an overall decline in recent weeks due to Covid-19. While we expect to see a downturn overall in advertising expenditures for 2020, we are seeing sectors of the industry actually increasing spend during this time.” (Gray, 2020)

Generally, this is a huge loss for the advertising industry.

According to the “National Television Direct-to-Consumer Advertising Units by Day” chart, founded by Ad Sphere, it shows the exact statistics of how different advertising revenue have been fluctuating since the beginning of Covid-19, such as Web, Mobile, SMS, Lead Generation, Vanity 800, Short Form Products and Infomercials.  All this show more of a decrease in their advertising more than an increase, with some showing drastic changes daily.  For example, the Lead Generation section shows huge decreases from a 5%-20% range every week.  Sadly, every advertising department is seeing a decrease in their revenue due to the Covid-19 situation.

General advertising and DRTV are taking a huge hit from Covid-19 .  Hopefully when all this ends, advertisers will be able to produce new content quickly.  The creative directors and advertisers are using this time wisely to ramp up their DRTV strategies and video pre-production creative efforts so they can launch new campaigns smoothly when life returns to the new normal.

Concepts TV Productions Receives the First Annual Pro Bono Moxie Award

LAS VEGAS, NV (September 20th, 2016) Concepts TV Productions, the NJ based Direct Response Production Company, received the first annual Pro Bono Moxie Award at the Electronic Retailing Association (ERA) Award ceremony.

ERA is a non-profit trade association for direct response and infomercial companies that sell goods and services on the internet, TV and at ‚“As Seen on TV” retail stores. Each year, Moxie Awards are presented to the greatest direct response marketing campaigns. This year the first annual pro bono award was given to the team at Concepts TV for ItStartsWithAGirl.org. Concepts TV traveled to India to create a video presentation to raise funds in an effort to break the cycle of poverty and provide education for girls in rural India.

Jon Calderaro, Vice President of Operations at Concepts TV said, ‚“I was very touched by the stories of the girls at the school and amazed at the level of commitment from the teachers. The Magic of Post Production

As the Visual Effects Director at Concepts TV, the best compliment I can get is when you don’t notice my work. Blemish removal, object removal, color swapping, chroma keying, and on rare occasions adding a completely new product into an already existing scene in post production.

Case in point: If your talent comes in for a shoot riddled with sunburn, and with no chance of rescheduling. What do you do? You need an expert compositor to isolate the skin tone, and manipulate the hue and color. The work I do can save thousands of dollars, and eliminate headaches.

When it comes to commercial content, we approach everything with a ‚“mute” button in mind. For example, if a consumer isn’t hearing what a product can offer. The visuals need to tell a complete story. By isolating the small of someones back, and adding a glow effect. You’re reinforcing the pain in that area. Add your talents movements to the mix, and you’re in need of motion tracking and rotoscoping to really sell the idea that they are in pain.

Superwoman

On September 12th, Concepts TV’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Kristy Pinand, competed in the Tri-State NJ Super Spartan race held at Mountain Creek in Vernon, New Jersey. The 9 ¬Ω mile, 30 obstacle competition took place in the pouring rain and included grueling physical tasks such as a low-hanging barbed wire crawl, a swim through muddy waters, a forty pound sandbag carry up a steep cliff, and a fire pit jump across two foot high flames. Motivated by true grit, determination, and a willingness to succeed, Kristy crossed the finish line with a final time of 4:28:37. Read more
